#Beachtrash, dead birds... Welcome to Venice Beach!...

Navy St., Sunday, July 23, 2017 at approx. 1 pm: Still Filthy with #beachtrash

Diagram of Venice Beach, July 23, 2017 from Navy St. to the Venice Pier.

Dateline: Sunday, July 23, 2017 along Venice Beach from Navy St. to the Venice Pier, where I observed a great deal of #beachtrash near the water's edge uncollected and not disposed of by the L.A. County Dept. of Beaches & Harbors (LACDBH).  The question continues, "Why does LACDBH not clean up the #beachtrash before anticipated and expected summer crowds that visit the beach on weekends?  Why does LACDBH think it is appropriate to charge money to park at its beach parking lots but not to provide a clean and safe beach for beach patrons?  The answer is unfortunately that LACDBH doesn't care if there is #beachtrash near the water's edge but LACDBH very much cares to collect it's beach parking revenues.

It is even more remarkable that the L.A. County Board of Supervisors allows this public health and safety issue to continue unabated day after day..... to the public's detriment.

Here are the photos I took which show just how much #beachtrash remains day after day near the water's edge along Venice Beach, particularly and inconceivably on the weekends.

We begin at Navy St...

Comment: The stretch of beach along Venice Beach between Navy St. and the Venice Breakwater was especially "Filthy", as the photos below illustrate.

#beachtrash left uncollected beside a trash can, below...

Below, a day at the beach is not complete without a dead bird near the water's edge... said dead bird was observed just south of Rose Ave. near the high tide line at approximately 10:04 a.m.

If, in fact, ANYONE from LACDBH had walked along here near the water's edge early Sunday morning OR if ANYONE had driven past in a LACDBH truck early in the morning, then this dead bird would have been observed and could have been collected and disposed of properly by LACDBH.  Instead, it was either not observed because LACDBH is NOT DAILY hand picking up #beachtrash near the water's edge   OR   this dead bird has been intentionally ignored by LACDBH.

I found this broken and sharp shaft of bamboo in the sand where it could easily cut up someone's foot...  I placed it under the ramp of a nearby closed lifeguard tower.

Approaching the "rainbow themed" lifeguard tower at Brooks Ave. below...

Of course, #wildlife continues to also be at risk due to the plastic, paper and styrofoam debris (aka, #beachtrash) near the shoreline...

Below, one of the cheap styrofoam body boards covered with nylon that are sold by a legion of illegal vendors along the shoreline of Venice Beach. This one is clearly broken and has been discarded and has been left uncollected and not disposed of by LACDBH...

Above and below, a large discarded mylar balloon is very much visible and reamins ignored and not disposed of by LACDBH.  Why?!  Because LACDBH staff that drive back and forth across this beach are TOO LAZY to stop and pick it up and remove it.

Below, a large partially burned piece of lumber remains near the shoreline along Venice Beach just north of the Venice Breakwater...

Below, a second discarded mylar balloon observed just north of the Venice Breakwater...

Above and below, a third discarded mylar balloon on the beach near the water's edge uncollected and not disposed of by LACDBH...  If I can see it, why can't LACDBH?

Below, our arrival out front of the Venice Breakwater lifeguard tower.  Surprisingly, the beach near the water's edge between the Breakwater and Ave 23 out front of the tall mushroom building that houses the LACDBH beach cleanup operation was remarkably clean.

Venice Breakwater to Ave 23: Surprisingly clean!

Ave 23 to the Venice Pier: Filthy with #beachtrash

Below, stick a #fork in it, this stretch of Venice Beach between Ave 23 and the Venice Pier is F I L T H Y !...

This styrofoam cup below has obviously been picked at by birds and multiple birds may now have styrofoam in their stomachs...

Welcome to the Venice Pier... please enjoy the #beachtrash in consideration for the $10 or more that you just paid to park at the beach parking lot.....

How much longer is this public health and safety travesty going to continue. When will the L.A. County Board of Supervisors step up and demand that LACDBH daily hand pick up the #beachtrash near the water's edge, instead of continuing to hope that it will get better.....
