Saturday, August 19, 2017: Venice Beach Trash Report

Dateline: Saturday morning, August 19, 2017. This morning I walked from Navy St. down to the Venice Pier along the shoreline and took photos of the #beachtrash near the water's edge left uncollected and not disposed of by the Los Angeles County Dept. of Beaches & Harbors (LACDBH).

Navy St....

Stunning morning at the beach!... in spite of the #beachtrash left uncollected and not disposed of near the water's edge by LACDBH...

Below, like I said before, it's a stunning day at the beach and look where all these beach patrons are gathered!... NEAR THE WATER'S EDGE, which is where LACDBH does not daily clean up #beachtrash.

So WHY should the beach patron pay to park at the beach parking lot if LACDBH is not going to clean up the beach, esp. near the water's edge where people set up their towels and beach kits?...

Below, now this is an attractive bit of #beachtrash. Wouldn't you just love to set up your beach towel next to this now that you've just paid over $10 to park at the beach parking lot?

Below, would you walk a mile for a CAMEL® cigarette?....

Below, some VISINE®.  Maybe LACDBH ought to use this so it can see all the #beachtrash that is not being picked up and disposed of on a daily basis near the water's edge!...

Below, notice the way the discarded purple toy shovel picks up the purple in the discarded TACO BELL® paper cup (aka, #beachtrash)!...

Above and below, no day is complete on the beach without finding a discarded MODELO® beer aluminum can left on the beach as #beachtrash.....

The Have and Have Not: The Video

Above and below, some plant debris that has washed up on shore that remains uncollected by LACDBH. This is not natural debris to the beach and it represents a potential source of injury for beach patrons, esp. children.  If LACDBH cared about the health and safety of the beach going public, then it could certainly very easily dispose of this public health and safety threat...

It's too bad for the general public that it cannot expect to get a clean and safe beach from LACDBH even though LACDBH is obligated to provide a clean and safe beach pursuant to the Operating Agreement that it has with the State of California (Calif. State Parks).  It is also unfortunate that Calif. State Parks remains asleep at the wheel and does not force LACDBH to clean up the #beachtrash near the water's edge on a daily basis so that the general public is not threatened with injury by virtue of the combined negligence of LACDBH and Calif. State Parks.

The Attorney General of the State of California should step up and investigate this continuing threat to public health and safety, and if necessary, sue both LACDBH and Calif. State Parks so that the general public is protected.

Respectfully submitted,

William Maguire
